The Lieutenant Governor is named following recommendations of a non-partisan committee, The Advisory Committee on Vice-Regal appointments, whose mandate is to provide non-binding recommendation to the Prime Minister after repeated consultations with relevant community members and private and public organizations.
The Committee consists of five members of whom three were permanent members and two temporary members coming from the Province of Quebec.1
The Lieutenant Governor is appointed by the Governor General on the recommendation of the Prime Minister of Canada.
The Lieutenant Governor was appointed on July 21, 2015 and was sworn in on September 24, 2015
