The purpose of the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal is to recognize the involvement, determination and constant striving of Quebecers who have or have had a positive influence in their community or the Québec nation. There are three categories of medals:
On the obverse, at the center, appears the coat of arms of Québec whereas the name and the rank of the Lieutenant Governor in function are found around the rim:
« Honorable J. Michel Doyon, 29e lieutenant-gouverneur du Québec ».
On the reverse appears the flag of Québec.
The recipients of various awards must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents within the meaning of the Act on the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (SC 2001, c. 27)
and reside permanently in Québec. However, in certain circumstances the Lieutenant Governor's Medal for Exceptional Merit may be awarded to a person who resides outside of Québec.
Any application submitted by the candidate her or himself will not be considered.
One medal may be awarded in each category to the same person in her or his lifetime.
Posthumous applications are not considered. However, the application remains eligible if the death occurs after the submission of the application.
Lieutenant Governor reserves the right to refuse any application that do not meet the eligibility criteria, or for any other motive deemed fit.

The closing date for submission of nominations is February 1st of each year and only electronic forms will be accepted.
In order to dedicate the adequate time to process the submissions, the form will not be available online after the deadline. Additionally, please note that no extension will be granted to transmit the application form, no matter what the reason.
The medal will be presented to the recipients during a number of award ceremonies presided by the Lieutenant Governor.
Upon receipt of an official letter of invitation from the Chief of Staff and Private Secretary of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, each recipient must attend, in person, the ceremony to which she or he was invited in order to receive the medal. A recipient cannot be represented otherwise than posthumously.
There is no monetary award associated with the Awards Program.
